Membership has been the foundation of Bickerdike’s work since its founding in 1967 by residents of Chicago’s near northwest side and representatives of local community groups.
With the goal of getting to know our members and introducing our work to more neighbors, we host our Annual Membership Drive each fall. This fall, our unofficial kick-off was at an End of Summer event held in our parking lot.
Members were invited to attend and enjoy food, games and time to get to know the staff and other members. In spite of the rain and chilly temperatures, members turned out for a fun time.
There was food, dancing, and games as well crafts and face painting for kids.
This was the first of more social and educational events for our members as we aim to get to know our members, hear their thoughts and educate them on the important issues that we can work to address together.
Through its membership program, Bickerdike engages community members with important issues. This is accomplished not only by keeping them updated on what is happening in their surrounding neighborhoods, but by giving them an opportunity to vote on and run for Bickerdike’s Board of Directors at the Annual Membership Meeting each December.
You can also apply for membership online or download and mail the application.
