Humboldt Park Portal
For over five years, since its launch in August 2010, the Humboldt Park Portal has been serving as the locally controlled online information center powered by and for the community. During those four years, the Portal’s reach has expanded beyond the website to provide information to thousands of individuals through a weekly newsletter and postings on social media platforms, Facebook and Twitter. This growth is the result of engaged organizations, businesses and individuals who work to provide and submit important information with a contributor base growing from 36 during the first quarter to over 1000 in 2016.
The day-to-day management of the Portal is managed by Bickerdike with an advisory committee, the Humboldt Park Smart Communities Steering Committe, consisting of representatives from community organizations and businesses, including:
- Association House of Chicago
- Chicago Commons
- Chicago Public Library- Humboldt Park Branch
- Chicago Public Library- Richard M. Daley Branch
- City Colleges of Chicago- Humboldt Park Vocational Education Center
- CTV Network
- Kelly Hall YMCA
- La Casa Norte
- West Humboldt Park Development Council
The Steering Committee is an outgrowth of the New Communities Program (NCP). In addition to the advisory role the committe plays in the strategic direction of the Portal, the committee guides the development of digital-literacy initiatives throughout greater Humboldt Park that reduce and ultimately eliminate the digital divide in the community.
