It was a beautiful Saturday for mid-September as Bickerdike staff welcomed members, residents and neighbors to the 4th Annual End of Summer Membership BBQ.

Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation was formed by Northwest Community Organization with Erie Neighborhood House and Holy Innocents Church in 1967 to create affordable housing opportunities in West Town, Humboldt Park and Logan Square in response to widespread disinvestment, arson and demolition. It has remained a member-based organization.

Membership has been the foundation of Bickerdike’s work since its founding in 1967 by residents of Chicago’s near northwest side and representatives of local community groups.

Waking up early on a cold Saturday isn’t at the top of many “to-do lists,” but that’s just what Bickerdike members do each December for Bickerdike’s Annual Membership Meeting.
