Chicago Housing Assistance

The Department of Housing and the Department of Family and Support Services have several initiatives to provide housing cost assistance to Chicago residents impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

A lottery (randomized) system is being used for this program to create a level equity and fairness – we expect a higher demand for our assistance programs than the supply of funding available, and a first come, first serve system would favor those applicants who happen to be more experienced using the Internet or who have all the required documents readily available. Illinois Housing Development Authority

Application open August 10 – 21

If you’ve been unable to pay your rent due to COVID-19, we’re here to help you. It’s important to continue paying as much of your rent as you can. Also, talk to your landlord on a regular basis about your situation.

Funds are limited so complete your application as soon as possible. Only one application per household is allowed and an application is not a guarantee of assistance.

If you are approved, you will receive a grant of $5,000 that will be sent to your landlord to be applied against your rent.

If you need assistance with the application process, please visit one of our Community Partners listed in the Resources.
