My name is Alex Wilson. I have been a resident of the community for 29 years, and have been involved with Bickerdike for over 20 years. During my time on the board, I have been a member of the Finance Committee, Housing Committee and the Board Governance Committee. Alex Wilson 2022

I first got involved with Bickerdike in 1999 when an organizer helped organize a block club on the street I lived on in Logan Square. Then, in 2004 I worked with Bickerdike to create and pilot a summer youth Earn-A-Bike program called BickerBikes. From BickerBikes more programs grew which in turn grew into an organization I founded named West Town Bikes, where I serve as Executive Director. To this day, our organizations remain partners and supporters of each other’s work.

I fully support and agree with the mission of Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation. I believe there are countless ways that we can all contribute to making our community and world a better place. For the past 18 years I have dedicated my professional and personal life to making Chicago a better place by using bicycles as a tool to build community. Bikes are only one of many tools that can be used to help address larger quality of life issues. These include housing, employment, education, safety, transportation, health, and wellness – all issues that Bickerdike has been working on for over 50 years.

Bickerdike should continue to be a leader in its work of addressing quality of life issues for Chicago communities. Bickerdike has played a pivotal role in my life and work. It is an honor to be able to contribute to serve on Bickerdike’s Board of Directors an organization that has contributed so much to me and my community. I look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve in this capacity. 

Mi nombre es Alex Wilson. Yo he sido un residente de la comunidad por 26 años y he estado involucrado con Bickerdike por 20 años. Durante mi tiempo como parte de la Mesa Directiva, he sido parte del Comité de Finanzas, del Comité de Viviendas y del Comité de Gobierno de la misma.

Me he involucré con Bickerdike por primera vez en 1999 cuando un organizador ayudó a organizar un club de cuadra en la calle donde yo vivía en Logan Square. En el 2004 trabajé con Bickerdike en crear un programa piloto de verano para jóvenes Earn-A-Bike llamado BickerBikes. Desde BickerBikes, más programas crecieron los cuales en su turno crecieron como una organización que yo fundé llamada West Town Bikes donde soy el Director Ejecutivo. Hasta el día de hoy nuestras organizaciones siguen siendo socias y se apoyan una a otra en su trabajo.

Yo estoy completamente de acuerdo y apoyo la misión de Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation. Yo creo que hay innumerables formas de contribuir para hacer de nuestra comunidad, y del mundo, un lugar mejor. Durante los últimos 18 años yo he dedicado mi vida profesional y personal para hacer de Chicago un mejor lugar usando las bicicletas como una herramienta para construir comunidades. Las bicicletas son solo una de las muchas herramientas que pueden ser usadas para ayudar a enfocar mejor calidad de vida. Estas incluyen viviendas, empleos, educación, seguridad, transportación, salud y bienestar – todos asuntos en los que Bickerdike ha estado trabajando por más de 50 años.

Bickerdike debe continuar siendo un líder en su trabajo de abordar temas de calidad de vida para las comunidades de Chicago. Bickerdike ha desempeñado un papel fundamental en mi vida y trabajo. Es un honor poder contribuir a servir en la Junta Directiva de Bickerdike, una organización que tanto ha contribuido a mí y a mi comunidad. Espero con interés la oportunidad de seguir sirviendo en esta capacidad.
