Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez recognizes Bickerdike’s CEO for 30 years of leadership and advocacy in affordable housing.
Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation is proud to celebrate CEO Joy Aruguete, who received a congressional commendation from U.S. Representative Delia C. Ramirez recognizing her decades of leadership and contributions to affordable housing and community development in Chicago and beyond.
On April 29, 2026, Congresswoman Ramirez honored Joy on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, highlighting her 30-year tenure as Bickerdike’s CEO and her longstanding commitment to creating, preserving, and advocating for affordable housing.
“Joy Aruguete herself could be described as a fixture or an icon in this work,” Ramirez stated, recognizing her influence across Chicago’s affordable housing sector.
Beyond her leadership at Bickerdike, Joy’s involvement with the Chicago Housing Trust, Cook County Land Bank Authority, and Chicago Rehab Network has helped advance the partnerships, resources, and systems that support affordable housing locally and nationally.
On October 15, Joy joined Congresswoman Ramirez and fellow congressional commendation recipients in Chicago for a celebration recognizing their contributions to the communities they serve.
The recognition reflects the impact of Joy’s leadership and Bickerdike’s longstanding commitment to community-driven development, resident empowerment, and housing stability.
We congratulate Joy on this honor and thank Congresswoman Ramirez for recognizing her decades of dedication to making affordable housing a reality for more families.
