Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation (Bickerdike) has secured financing for Boulevard Apartments Preservation, officially closing on December 28, 2023, and clearing the way for Bickerdike to relocate residents to their temporary apartments and begin construction in late January.
Boulevard Apartments Preservation is the preservation, recapitalization, and rehabilitation of 70 units of affordable housing located in three (3) historic, walk-up buildings in West Town, Humboldt Park, and Logan Square. The buildings are located at 1930-38 North Humboldt (30 apartments), 929-35 North Sacramento (26 apartments), and 2212-14 North Sacramento (14 apartments).
The scope of work includes renovating all apartments, common areas, and building systems with sustainable green technology. We will modernize all the apartments with new kitchens, Energy Star appliances, bathrooms, and flooring. The modernization also includes new energy-efficient furnaces, centralized air conditioning, and programmable thermostats. The buildings will receive new roofs, masonry repairs, and replacement of windows/repair of historic windows.
This renovation isn’t just about preserving historic apartments; it’s about ensuring they remain affordable for generations and helping residents remain in the community they call home.
Construction on the first building, 2212-14 N. Sacramento, is scheduled to be completed in August. At this time, residents will return to their newly rehabbed homes.
